The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) mission is to support and promote high-quality mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative inquiry within predominantly undergraduate institutions. CUR is guided by the belief that faculty members enrich their teaching and societal contributions through ongoing research engagement, especially when involving undergraduates in research projects. CUR's leadership collaborates with agencies and foundations to amplify research opportunities for faculty and students while offering support for faculty development. CUR was founded in 1978 by a group of chemists from private liberal arts colleges. Their goal was to provide information about research conducted at liberal arts colleges by faculty, often in collaboration with students. CUR has grown to include 13 divisions spanning all disciplines, more than 13,000 individual members from undergraduate students to university presidents, and more than 700 institutional members from all types of institutions.
The Office of Undergraduate Research (UGR) is pleased to offer UM students, faculty, staff, administrators, and mentors the opportunity to become a CUR member at no cost. These individual CUR memberships are made possible through the University of Miami's Enhanced Institutional membership. The membership is paid for by UGR in support of research endeavors spanning across the entire university. CUR Membership is designed to guide and assist faculty, mentors, administrators, researchers, staff, and students in their efforts to develop, enhance, sustain, and support undergraduate research on their campuses and beyond.
